Keeping Glasgow Moving
The free flow of traffic is central to Glasgow's economy and environment. The parking regulations are designed to help people come into the city for business, shopping or entertainment, and to make the streets safer for drivers and pedestrians.
The Parking Unit
Glasgow City Council has been granted powers by the Scottish Executive to take responsibility for the enforcement of the city's parking regulations. This is part of the government's scheme for the decriminalisation of parking offences.
As a result of this the new team of parking attendants appeared on Glasgow's streets from 4th October 1999.
The Parking Attendants are there to make those regulations work and are equipped with the latest technology.
If you park in the wrong place, or for the wrong period, you're more likely to get a ticket. The extra funds raised from penalty charge notices will be used to improve the city's roads and pavements.
The Parking Unit is also responsible for delivering the following services
- enforcement of parking regulations within the city
- Residential Parking Permits / Vouchers for City Centre, Hillhead & Garnethill resident's parking schemes
- on-road Pay and Display parking
- motorcycle parking bays
- removal of abandoned vehicles
- temporary parking restrictions for Special Event Management
- School Crossing Patrols
Off-street Parking - City Parking (Glasgow) LLP
Following transfer from the council, City Parking (Glasgow) LLP is now responsible for off-street parking operations. This includes management of 18 off-road
