Obtaining a Birth Certificate

The Registration Office based in the Service Desk, 45 John Street, Glasgow will close at 5pm on Friday 18 July 2014 and will re-open at 9am on Tuesday 22 July 2014.
You can still make an appointment on Monday 21 July 2014 by phoning 0141 287 7658.
Please note the day following a public holiday can be extremely busy and priority will be given to death registrations, therefore your business may not be dealt with the same day.
The Registration Office of Births, Deaths, Marriages and Civil Partnerships is based at the Service Desk at 45 John Street. The opening hours of the Service Desk are Monday-Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm.
For personal visits to the Service Desk we will always endeavour to issue a certificate on the same day, however during busy periods and unforeseen IT loss, this may not always be possible.
Obtaining Birth Certificates
You can order replacement Birth, Death, Marriage or Civil Partnership certificates online for events registered in Scotland. The fee for an extract is £15.00 plus postage. Subsequent extracts of the same entry, ordered at the same time, cost £10.00 each. Please note that certificates may not be available if the event was registered out with Glasgow, within the current year.
Payment can be made via our secure online system using debit or credit card.
In order to obtain an extract it is helpful to know:
- full name at birth
- date and place of birth
- mother's maiden surname

Extracts may also be obtained by writing to us at:

Cheque's and Postal Orders should be made payable to Glasgow City Council. All payments outwith United Kingdom should be in sterling in the form of an international money order or banker's draft.
Extracts may be obtained in person over the public counter.

Please note, we will always endeavour to deal with your enquiry, however, if you attend the office later than 4.30pm we may be unable to finalise your request on that day and would therefore offer an appointment for you to return to the office another day.
Please also note, the preferred method of payment at the Service Desk is by Debit/Credit Card. Registration staff will be unable to accept cash payments, however, you will be able to pay for transactions involving cash/cheque at a separate cash office within the Service Desk.
