Christmas and New Year Opening

Most council offices will be closed during the festive period from Wednesday 24 December 2014. Offices will re-open on Monday 5 January 2015. Full details are available here.

Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages

The Registration Office at 45 John Street and the Ceremony Rooms at 23 Montrose Street will close at 5pm on Wednesday 24 December and normal service will resume at 9am on Monday 29 December 2014 at 45 John Street*.


The office will also close at 12.30pm on Wednesday 31 December 2014 and normal service will resume at 9am on Monday 5 January 2015 at both locations.

*The Ceremony Rooms at 23 Montrose Street will only be open for ceremonies that have already been arranged.


Cemeteries and Crematoria

The Hall of Remembrance at both Linn and Daldowie Crematoria will be open as below:

  • Thursday 25 and Friday 26 December 11am to 4pm
  • Wednesday 31 December 8.30am to 12 noon
  • Thursday 1 and Friday 2 January 11am to 4pm

Service Desk at 45 John Street

The Service Desk at 45 John Street will close at 5pm on Wednesday 24th December and will open on Monday 29th December (9:00am to 5:00pm), Tues 30th December (9:00am to 5:00pm) and Wednesday 31st December (9:00am to 12:30pm) for the following services only:

  • Registration of births, deaths and marriages
  • Cash Office.
  • Council Tax & housing benefit

For all other services, including Licensing, Parking Permits and Appeals, Land and Environmental Services permits, the Service Desk will close at 5:00pm on Wednesday 24th December and normal service will resume Monday 5th January 2015 at 9:00am.


Housing Benefit and Council Tax Services

The Housing Benefit and Council Tax Service offices will be closed from 4.30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2014 and will reopen at 9am on Monday 5 January 2015.

Housing Benefit and Council Tax Services will provide a telephone service on Monday, Tuesday 29 and 30 December between 9 and 5 pm and on Wednesday 31 December 2014 from 9-12.30pm. Normal opening hours will resume on Monday 5 January 2015 from 8.30am to 5pm.

Scottish Welfare Fund

Only expenses that have arisen as a result of an emergency or disaster will be considered

during the festive period, for example, fire, flood, eviction. You can contact us about the

Scottish Welfare Fund on 0141 276 1177.


Social Work Services

Social work offices will close at 4.45pm on Wednesday 24 December and re-open at 8.45am on Monday 5 January 2015 with the following exceptions:

On the 31 December these offices open between 8.45am and 12.00pm.

If you do not currently have a social worker and need support or information from Social Work Services then phone Social Care Direct on 0141 287 0555 during the office hours listed above.

A Homelessness service will be available from The Hamish Allan Centre, 180 Centre Street, Glasgow, G5 8EE. Phone 0800 838 502.

If you need to contact social work outside office hours then an Emergency social work service is available from Standby Services. Phone 0800 811 505.


Cordia

On 25 and 26 December 2014 and 1 and 2 January 2015 Cordia will be providing a reduced home care service across Glasgow. All affected service users will be given information relating to any reduction. Outwith this time a normal service will operate.
