Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) there have been changes made to this service. For further advice and guidance about the Registrars service please read our dedicated services update page.
Registrars are now able to carry out still birth registrations remotely - there will be no face to face Appointments.
We thank you for your patience during this time.
This can be a stressful and upsetting time. In this section there is information and guidance aimed at helping you through the registration process.
In Scotland a stillbirth must be registered within 21 days.
If the event took place outwith Scotland it must be registered in the country the stillbirth took place.
In Glasgow we operate an appointment system for all stillbirth registrations.
The office is located at:-
45 John Street
Please phone the registrar's appointment line on 0141 287 7654. The line is open Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm.
If the baby's parents are married to each other, or in a registered civil partnership with each other, either parent may register the stillbirth.
If the baby's parents are not married to each other, or in a registered civil partnership with each other, the mother must register the stillbirth. If the father/parent's name is also to be included on the registration documents, then both parents should attend the Registrar's office together. If this is not possible, please contact the Registrar for advice.
