GIRFEC Practice Guidance

What is GIRFEC?

GIRFEC means Getting it Right for Every Child.

GIRFEC is the Scottish Government-led approach to making sure that our children and young people - and their parents or carers - can get all the help and support they need from birth right through to age 18.

The overarching concept of 'Getting it right for every child' is to develop a common approach across all agencies, that supports the delivery of appropriate, proportionate and timely help to all children and young people as they need it. This is expressed as:

"...the right help, at the right time, in the right way"

Who is the GIRFEC Guidance for?

This pdf icon guidance [918kb] is for staff and agencies that deliver services for children in Glasgow.

It is also relevant to practitioners in adult services who work with parents or carers for example, those working in adult mental health, community addictions teams and adult learning disability teams.
