Michael Jamieson

Follow in the footsteps of Olympic silver medallist, Michael Jamieson at the Glasgow School of Sport - Scotland's first school dedicated to sporting excellence.

Glasgow School of Sport at Bellahouston Academy has helped develop and nurture some of Scotland's top young athletes and sports stars through its commitment to sporting and academic excellence.

The school has five sport specialisms, with pupils focusing on one key sport. These are:

  • Athletics
  • Badminton
  • Gymnastics
  • Hockey
  • Swimming

Entry to the school of sport

Entry is by selection only and there are entry points in S1, S3, S5 and S6. There is no residential support however pupils who are successful in gaining a place at this prestigious school are assisted with travel costs to and from school.

What do we offer?

The School offers a modified curriculum giving pupils the flexibility necessary to achieve the correct balance between sports training and their academic studies - encompassing all aspects of the new curriculum for excellence (CfE).

Arguably the most qualified, experienced and skilled team of high performance coaches in the UK, develop and deliver individualised training programmes for all sports pupils. Competition is a key focus with pupils competing for their school, club, district and country at various points throughout the year.

20 pupils and graduates have represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Games. At Glasgow 2014 graduates won two silver medals and had the School of Sport competed as a country it would have finished in 26th position!
