Council allocates more than £5million to help Glaswegians find jobs and apprenticeships

The Council's Executive Committee today (11 August) awarded over £5million to organisations to help deliver programmes which will assist people in Glasgow who face particular challenges in finding work to enter the labour market.

The Employability Pipeline and Youth Gateway programmes are supported by the European Social Fund.

These services will be delivered under eight categories. 

The categories

· Specialist target area in disability

· Specialist target area in disadvantaged ethnic minority

· Specialist target area in health conditions

· Specialist target area in homelessness

· Specialist target area in offending background

· YEI Glasgow Youth Gateway - North East Area

· YEI Glasgow Youth Gateway - North West Area

· YEI Glasgow Youth Gateway - South Area

Background

The Employability Pipeline aims to enhance mainstream employability provision by engaging and supporting Glasgow residents facing multiple barriers to employment.  It is funded by the European Social Fund, and there is a requirement for suppliers to match funds on a 40/60 basis (60% from the supplier).

The Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) is additional funding for regions across the EU where youth employment has historically been an issue. The YEI targets and supports young people who have not been successful in securing employment or a modern apprenticeship through the Glasgow Guarantee and aims to secure a sustainable employment outcome for at least 1200 young people. The European Union provides 66% of funding for this programme with the council's Glasgow Guarantee budget providing 34%.

The awards for these lots were awarded through the framework developed to allocate this funding.  Those awards are as follows:

· Specialist target area in disability, to Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living, allocation value £288,227

· Specialist target area in disadvantaged ethnic minority, to Bridges Programmes, £182,101

· Specialist target area in health conditions, to Momentum Scotland, £239,383

· Specialist target area in homelessness, to the Wheatley Group, £158,004

· Specialist target area in offending background, to the Wheatley Group, £239,436

· YEI Glasgow Youth Gateway (all three areas) to Action for Children Services Ltd, £1,222,470 for the North East, £1,414,944 for the North West, and £1,359,456 for the South (total award £3,996,870)

In total, these eight lots will see £5,104,021 allocated from the European Social Fund.  An extra £500,000 will be made available for Action for Children Services Ltd through the Glasgow Guarantee, to address the individual needs of young people where they cannot be met within existing local resources and where a bespoke service is required.
