A big roar for Rowena Nursery

Children and staff celebrate the official opening of their new nursery.

The sun shone as children, staff, parents and special guests gathered at Rowena Nursery in Knightswood to celebrate the official opening of their new nursery.

The nursery - the first to be built under the council's 4Rs strategy to replace or refurbish every primary school or nursery in poor condition in the city - is now the colourful, bright and airy learning environment for 85 children and 14 staff.

The large, secure outdoor play area is already a big hit - and inclement weather will not hinder these activities as large covered decked areas have been incorporated into the design.

Bailie Liz Cameron, Executive Member for Children, Young People & Lifelong Learning unveiled the plaque on the day and said: "What a beautiful day we have had at the official opening of the nursery - what a lovely building and so colourful and we've been treated to beautiful singing - in English and Gaelic. 

"The children and staff are so happy in their new nursery but it is all about what goes on inside the building that's important and makes the nursery breathe."

Parent Leselyanne Duffy spoke at the opening and said: "You just have to walk through the front doors to see how lovely the nursery is and also feel the energy of the new building.  The children and the parents are supported so well by an amazing staff."
