Masterchef winner lends Lord Provost his support for Comic Relief

LP red nose day

Gary Maclean, winner of Masterchef: The Professionals 2016, popped into the City Chambers to have 'Tea with the LP' in support of Comic Relief today Friday 24 March.

The City of Glasgow College lecturer, who beat off stiff competition from 47 other professional chefs in the BBC television series, also brought along some of his bakery students: Hanna Curston and her brother David and Stephanie McMurdo who donated some of their creations for the charity event.

The Lord Provost Sadie Docherty said: "It was wonderful to meet Gary and his talented students. They certainly rose to the occasion and we're delighted that they could come along and help out.

"Their beautiful baking was a much appreciated addition to the cakes and scones supplied by Encore, the catering arm of the council's arm's length company Cordia, and council staff who donated home-baked treats for this special event."

Tea with the LP' is a regular charity event the Lord Provost hosts for Comic Relief.

It's not the first time stars from the television have lent their support. Shellsuit Bob (Stephen Purdon) and his on screen wife Stella (Keira Luchessi), from BBC Scotland's River City, Shieldinch hairdresser, Robbie Fraser (Gary Lamont) and DJ and comedian Des Clarke have all shared a cuppa with Glasgow's First Citizen in aid of Comic Relief.
