UPDATE (SEPTEMBER 2021):
Following an independent review in September 2021 which recommended the retention of those Spaces for People measures that could realise long term sustainability and active travel benefits - temporary footway widening infrastructure across neighbourhoods will not be made permanent, and if not already removed at the undernoted location, will be taken away in the subsequent months.

Measure(s): | Byres Road: -The northwest side of the carriageway will be narrowed by 2 metres from the south kerbline of White Street, south-westwards for an estimated distance of 40 metres. - The northwest side of the carriageway will be narrowed by 2 metres from the south kerbline of Dowanside Road, south-westwards for an estimated distance of 30 metres. - The northwest side of the carriageway will be narrowed by 2 metres from the south kerbline of Observatory Road, south-westwards for an estimated distance of 32 metres. - The southeast side of carriageway will be narrowed by 2 metres from a point 28 metres southwest of the south kerbline of Cresswell Street, south-westwards for an estimated distance of 24 metres. All parking bays to be suspended. |
Purpose: | To allow the widening of the existing footways to enable physical distancing. To allow queueing areas at local shops. |
