The new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital became fully operational in June 2015 with 1109 adult beds, 256 children beds and over 10,000 staff employed on campus (a rise of approximately 7,000).

As part of the planning permission for the hospital, Glasgow City Council has developed on road parking controls designed to effectively manage the road network surrounding the campus in particular the residential street and main arterial and industrial roads.

On road parking controls is part of a suite of measures integral to the successful operation of the hospital to meet the high travel demand whilst constraining traffic increases including Clyde Fastlink, enhanced bus services, improved pedestrian and cycle routes and the implementation of a dedicated hospital Travel Plan. These measures agreed during the planning process are designed to encourage sustainable and active travel by hospital staff for all or part of their commute as opposed to commuting by private car and parking on the road network surrounding the hospital campus.
