Dance School of Scotland and Musical Theatre

The Dance School of Scotland is the countries only fully funded centre of excellence for dance and musical theatre that's won international acclaim from top performers including Dame Judi Dench.

It's funded by the Scottish Government and is part of Knightswood Secondary School.

What do we offer?

We offer vocational dance and musical theatre courses providing expert teaching and training in both disciplines within the school's state-of-the-art facilities.

Students are also integrated into the school community, taking part in the mainstream curriculum of Knightswood Secondary.

The dance course is based on classical ballet combined with school studies for pupils from S1.

The two-year musical theatre course is based on singing, drama and dance combined with academic studies for pupils entering S5 (there are a limited number of places in preparatory theatre for S3 and S4 pupils).

Entry to the Dance School of Scotland

Entry to the Dance School of Scotland is by audition only. A special open day is held every November with auditions in January for entry to the school at the beginning of the new term in August.

All students who apply will receive an audition and the dance school accepts applications by talented youngsters from all over Scotland.

Entry to the school is free and students who can't travel from home are able to apply for a place at the school's residence.

A new multi-pound purpose-built pupil residence has now opened within the school grounds at Knightswood Secondary.

Former students

Former students of these prestigious courses have successfully followed their dreams to study at illustrious colleges in London and America and many now tread the boards on stages across the world.

Former musical theatre pupil Marcus Guy studied at New York's Julliard School for Performing Arts last year and follows in the dazzling footsteps of Robin Williams, Kevin Spacey, Kelsey Grammar and Kelly McGillis.

Hayley Stobo, a dance school graduate, was the first girl from Scotland two years ago to be accepted to train at the world-famous Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow.
