Friends lend their support to Glasgow's Helping Heroes

Glasgow Helping Heroes launch Friend of project Lord Provost Sadie Docherty today signed up as the city's first high profile 'friend' of Glasgow's Helping Heroes.

The city's First Citizen was joined in Glasgow's George Square by Glasgow's Second Citizen, Lord Dean of Guild John MacLeod and Glasgow's Helping Heroes personnel Major Barry Henderson and Major Garry McLeod.

The charity, launched in 2010, is appealing for people to become a Friend of Glasgow`s Helping Heroes. It has the backing of the armed forces charity SSAFA, Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Housing Association (GHA).

Glasgow Helping Heroes is keen to recruit like-minded people willing to volunteer their time to veterans, within their communities, and help fundraise.

The organisation provides free and impartial advice to armed forces veterans, serving service personnel, their dependants and carers on a range of issues including: housing and homelessness, employment, benefits, debt, mental and physical health as well as offering financial support.

Glasgow`s Helping Heroes has assisted more than 1600 veterans since it was set up. Those seeking help ranged from 17 to 97 years.
