Lord Provost and Leader send letter of condolence to Mayor of Manchester

LP - Eva Bolander desk

Glasgow's Lord Provost Eva Bolander and the Leader of the City Council Susan Aitken have sent a message of condolence from the city of Glasgow to the Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham following last night's Manchester Arena attack.

The joint message reads: "On behalf of the citizens of Glasgow, we send a message of sympathy and solidarity to the people of Manchester. Glasgow shares your sorrow at the senseless loss of life and the dreadful injuries inflicted upon innocent people.

"Our thoughts and prayers go to those who have lost loved ones and those whose lives have been irrevocably changed. We also send our gratitude and admiration to everyone involved in the rescue and recovery operation including all the emergency services.

"Manchester, like Glasgow, is a vibrant, diverse and resilient city. I know your citizens will stand strong together over the days and months that follow.

"As a mark of our respect we have flown the Union flag at half-mast over Glasgow City Chambers."
