World Pipe Band Championships

The biggest event in any piping fan's calendar is certainly the annual World Pipe Band Championships, affectionately known as 'The Worlds'. The event, delivered by Glasgow Life in association with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, has had a long association with Glasgow, and for many years has been bringing top flight international piping competition and a wonderfully entertaining event to the city.

The first ever World Pipe Band Championships were held at Murrayfield in Edinburgh in 1947. The event was first held in Glasgow in 1948 and has been staged in the city continuously since 1986.

The World Pipe Band Championships returns to Glasgow Green on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th August 2018.

The winners of 2017 were Inveraray and District Pipe Band. In 2017, 219 bands competed over the 2 days with over 35,000 people in attendance and thousands more following the action via live web streaming.
