Street Play is a nationwide initiative run by Play Scotland and supported by the city council and Glasgow Life. It aims to bring communities closer together by providing local groups and residents to take back their street and enjoy a traffic free environment.
This is available over 4 weekends in 2019.
The dates the free road closure apply to are:
You can apply for 1 weekend or all weekends, however a separate application form must be filled in for each weekend.
Only non-traffic sensitive streets of a residential nature will be considered as part of the scheme.
We do not allow applications that would require any form of license (under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 or Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005. For example:
Roads closed under the Street Play application must not be main roads with bus routes or roads with a lot of traffic.
All associated council costs are provided free of charge such as the temporary traffic regulation order and road closure equipment to residents, local groups and community based organisations. To claim the cost of Public Liability Insurance you should email Christine Stewart at Glasgow Life.
Applicants are required to communicate with all the affected properties that are accessed on or accessed by the road you are looking to close.
You must not restrict local residents from parking on the road during the event. The Traffic Order will not prohibit parking.
The applicant must carry out a risk assessment before each road closure. Evidence of the risk assessment must be provided to us before the first event can proceed.
Glasgow City Council reserves the right to cancel Street Play application if the closures are not implemented in accordance with these requirements or the activities are not managed in a safe manner.
The road must be returned to its original condition prior to the closure.
Applications should be submitted by email before 5pm on the first of each month or posted to:
