What is the European Passport Return Service (EPRS)?

The European Passport Return Service (EPRS) is provided for EEA and Swiss nationals, applying online only using the EEA (QP) or EEA (PR) application forms.

This service is provided by local authorities in partnership with the Home Office.

As a participating local authority, we can photocopy your EEA or Swiss passport and those of any family members you have included in your application and forward a copy, along with your checklist and application to the Home Office on your behalf. Your passport(s) will be returned to you at your appointment and will then be available for you to use while your application is being processed.

How do I make an appointment?

This service is by appointment only.

You must attend your appointment within 10 working days of submitting your online application.

If you arrive after 10 working days your application cannot be sent and you will not get a refund of the fee paid.

You and any family members included in your online application (over the age of 15 years and 6 months) must attend an appointment in person.

When making your appointment with us we will need to know your Payment Notification Number (PNN).  This is the reference you were given by the Home Office when you made your application online.  Please enter your PNN reference where it says "Exact Reason for Visit".

If you are late for your appointment you will need to book a fresh appointment and pay the fee again.

Your passport/s will be returned to you at your appointment.

What are the fees?

The fee for this service is £36.00 (inc VAT) per person + postage.

The fee is not refundable or transferable.

Once you have made an appointment with us to attend the office, a member of staff will contact you to arrange payment over the phone by credit or debit card. Postage costs will be charged at the time of your appointment.

We will send your application to the Home Office by Royal Mail Special Delivery. The postage charge will depend on the total weight of your application.

Up to 100g - £6.45

Up to 500g - £7.25

Up to 1kg - £8.55

Up to 2kg - £11.00

Up to 10kg - £26.60

Up to 20kg - £41.20


What do I need to bring with me?

For each applicant will need to bring:-

  • your original passport(s)

  • a copy of your checklist and supporting documents

  • a printed copy of your online application form

  • 2 passport sized photographs with the person's name on the back.  (Please note it's an automatic refusal if the photographs are missing)

This service is for online applications only

We will only photocopy your passport (not ID cards), certify and send all supporting documents to the Home Office on your behalf.

Your passport/s will be returned to you at your appointment.

It may be necessary for the Home Office to contact you to attend a further appointment or request your original passport in order to determine your application. In such instances you will not normally be entitled to a refund. If you do not submit your original passport upon request or attend a further appointment your application may be refused.

Using the European Passport Return Service (EPRS) does not guarantee the success of your application and our staff cannot provide any advice. This is not a checking a service and will not ensure that your form has been correctly completed and correct supporting documents submitted.

We are unable to advise you of the progress of your application after it has been submitted.
