Restorative Justice
Restorative processes are an approach used to address the harm caused by offending and antisocial behaviour.
Young people who engage in our intervention services learn about the impact of their offending, and in particular the effects on victims and communities.
Where they've caused harm, they're encouraged to take responsibility for their actions and, if appropriate, might be offered the opportunity to take part in a Restorative Conference.
A conference may be appropriate when there is an identifiable victim or victims, there was significant impact on that person or persons, the person responsible admits responsibility, and all parties voluntarily agree to be involved. It allows people who have committed an offence and those affected by their actions the opportunity to meet face to face in a safe environment.
It's not about punishment or retribution, it's a chance for the person who has caused harm to take responsibility for their actions and to make amends. It also allows those harmed by an offence the opportunity to tell their story and make suggestions about what happens next.
