About Best Bar None

The Best Bar None (BBN) Initiative In Glasgow is designed to Improve licensing standards and develop best practice within licensed premises.

Glasgow City Council (GCC) has administered The BBN Initiative since 2005 on behalf of The Alcohol and Drugs Partnership (ADP) in Glasgow.

BBN is a national initiative administered by the Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC) and supported by a number of National Sponsors in the drinks industry.

Our Partners

GCC works closely with Police Scotland's Licensing Team, Glasgow City Council's Licensing Standards, the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) the SIA and a number of licensing solicitors and trade partners to help licensees develop good practices within the five licensing objectives:

  • Preventing crime and disorder
  • Securing public safety
  • Preventing public nuisance
  • Protecting and improving public health
  • Protecting children from harm

This helps encourage responsible drinking and reduce anti-social behaviour across Glasgow.

How to Apply

If you wish to apply for this Initiative please complete our Online Registration Form.

When an application is received contact will be made for a pre-assessment visit and then an independent assessor will contact the licensee to arrange an onsite assessment. Every premises is scored using a national BBN booklet for the type of premises so everyone applying across Scotland is scored against the same criteria to keep it fair. The booklet and other guidance and resources are free to members and available online.

They will look for evidence of policies and procedures they have in place. This is a rigorous process which can take up to 2 hours.

Year after year the standards have been driven up by the premises themselves and we are very proud of the commitment Glasgow venues display to achieve Best Bar None standards in their venues and we hope it will continue for many years to come.

Training Opportunities

As part of the initiative a number of training courses are available throughout the year which are listed on our Online Training Form.

If there is any training you would like us to deliver which isn't mentioned on the form please complete the above online form and add the name of the training course in the free text box "Is there any training you would like us to deliver which isn't mentioned above".
