January 2022

Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, 17 to 23 January

Cervical Cancer Week 2022

This Week is Cervical Cancer Prevention Week. The aim of the campaign is to make sure that all people with a cervix know how cervical cancer can be prevented.

Throughout this week, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust are raising awareness of cervical screening. One in three people with a cervix don't attend their cervical screening and it is important to change this.

Cervical cancer prevention doesn't stop at screening; it is important to know as much information about cervical cancer and the support available for those who need it.

Dry January 2022

This month, you can have the chance to take a break, a total body and mind rest - by taking part in Dry January.

Things have been a little unpredictable recently and you may be unsure what to do next or where to even start. Dry January can help you.

You can take part by using this time of 31 days alcohol-free to reflect on your usual drinking habits and begin to make healthy improvements for 2022.  Why not try a new hobby or save the money usually spent on alcohol to treat yourself?  Thirty-one days free from alcohol can also have great health benefits such as better sleeping habits, healthier skin and improvement on your mental health.

Dry January is not about abstaining from alcohol forever. It's about you having the opportunity to focus on yourself; take some time out to reset your approach for the year ahead. Take this useful step to help get your YOU back and make 2022 the best it can be.

Brew Monday, 17 January 2022

Brew Monday 2022

Brew Monday is an annual event, organised by The Samaritans, held on the third Monday in January - Monday 17 January 2022 - as a reminder to reach out for a cuppa and catch-up with people you care about.

The third Monday in January is sometimes referred to as "the most difficult day of the year" but The Samaritans are highlighting that we can all have difficult days, any day of the year.

The start of the new year can sometimes be overwhelming, so we encourage you to take some time out on Brew Monday to have a cuppa and catch up on Monday 17 January with loved ones,

Remember, you don't need to have a cuppa and it doesn't need to be a Monday to catch up. If you're sharing and listening, you're doing it right.

The Samaritans offer tips for helping someone open up when something is wrong and SHUSH - active listening tips.
