Welcome to Glasgow

Susan Aitken

It's my pleasure to welcome you to Glasgow. I am sure that in your time with us in Scotland you will experience the warmth, generosity and friendliness of the people of our city.

Glasgow has a long and proud history of welcoming those fleeing war and persecution and providing a safe haven. When called upon, we are ready to assist and today we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

I cannot comprehend the horrors which Ukraine has experienced in recent months and the trauma and hardship many of you will have experienced fleeing your homes. While we may not be immediately able to provide you with all the home comforts you have been forced to leave behind, you will find sanctuary here and Glasgow's citizens will welcome you. As Leader of Glasgow City Council, please be assured that we will do everything we can over time to provide what you need to consider Scotland a second home.

Glasgow is a beautiful city with a wealth of attractions which I hope you have time to enjoy. This welcome pack provides you with some useful information to help you settle and begin to rebuild your lives in peace and safety.

On behalf of Glasgow City Council, I offer you the warmest of welcomes and hope that you will consider our city your safe haven.

Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council.
