Communities Benefit from Weeks of Action

Week of Action banner

A rolling programme of intensive Weeks of Action is touring Glasgow's communities to blitz environmental issues.

Craigend, Hillhead, Govan, Anderston, Summerston and Pollokshields East have already benefited from work to improve the appearance of each area and tackle problems like graffiti, overgrown shrubbery and dog fouling. The next location being targeted with a Deep Clean and Week of Action is City Centre from Monday 20 March 2023.

Council teams are removing graffiti and weeds, tackling overgrown shrubbery, sweeping streets and cutting grass. Our Community Enforcement Officers are out on patrol - checking for anyone dropping litter and failing to pick up their dogs' poo. Our Environmental Health Officers are carrying out random spot checks on local shops and businesses to ensure they have commercial waste contracts in place. Fly-tipping hot-spots are also being cleared after being searched for evidence of those responsible.

Our teams are being joined by partners including Police Scotland and the local registered social landlord. Residents are also getting involved in helping us make their area look its best. People are taking pride in their surroundings by joining our Clean Glasgow team for community litter picks in streets near their homes.

The ongoing Weeks of Action are in addition to routine council maintenance. The rolling programme will be coming to an area near your soon - keep an eye on the council social media channels for more details.

  • Join our community litter pick, meeting at Aird's Lane near Goosedubbs, City Centre on Thursday 23 March, from 10:30 am until 1pm. Litter picking equipment will be supplied.
