LEZ vehicle checker and blue badge portal now live

Published: 5 April 2023

Today, Transport Scotland announced that people can now enter their vehicle registration number on the official website for Scotland's Low Emission Zones to confirm if their vehicle will meet LEZ requirements.

In addition, Blue Badge holders who require exemptions can now register their details with the new LEZ exemption system so that the vehicle they are travelling in can access Low Emission Zones.

The national LEZ website has been offering a indicative checker service since 2019. This additional functionality makes it easier than before - without having to contact the vehicle manufacturer for full confirmation.

Low Emission Zones which help protect public health and improve air quality were formally introduced across Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen in May 2022.

With the shape and scope of LEZs now agreed across the four cities through this introduction, local grace periods apply until enforcement commences.

Glasgow introduced Scotland's first Low Emission Zone (LEZ) in 2018 which targeted emissions from the bus fleet and required progressive improvements in the number of cleaner buses entering the city centre. From 1 June 2023, all vehicle types will be affected.  Zone residents will have an extra year to comply.

Full details about Glasgow's LEZ can be found at glasgow.gov.uk/LEZ.

You can see if your vehicle meets the national LEZ emission standards by using Transport Scotland's vehicle registration checker

Blue Badge holders who require an exemption can register their details on Transport Scotland's exemption portal.
