Please note the Genealogy Centre based at the Mitchell Library will not open until 9.45am on Friday 27 November 2015. You can still book an appointment by calling 0141 287 8364.

Registrar's Genealogy Service will be running a pilot scheme to trial occasional Saturday opening.  Our next available Saturdays will be:

Saturday 5 December 2015 - 9.30am till 4.00pm

Saturday 9 January 2016 - 9.30am till 4.00pm

Saturday 13 February 2016 - 9.30am till 4.00pm

Saturday 12 March 2016 - 9.30am till 4.00pm

Genealogy Centre

The Genealogy Centre is based on the fifth floor at the Mitchell Library. The facility is run by Glasgow Registration Service.

This location will allow easier access to other resources available within the Mitchell Library that may be of interest to those searching their family history.

Booking Information

Bookings can be made in person, by telephone or via email. The current fee per person is £15.00 per day or part thereof. Due to high demand, we recommend that you book a space to avoid disappointment.

The system in operation is one whereby the client has to do all the research by themselves. The member of staff in attendance will demonstrate how to use and make the most of the facilities available. Please note the more accurate background information that you have the more likely it is that you will succeed in your research.

We are happy to bring Scotland's People package to our Genealogy Centre as part of our working partnership with National Records of Scotland.

On arrival you will be allocated a computer station for your own exclusive use.

  • Statutory Birth, Death & Marriage Records for the whole of Scotland (1855 - 2010)
  • Civil Partnership records (2005 - 2010)
  • Scottish Divorces (1984 - 2010)
  • Old Parochial Records (1553 - 1854)
  • Census including Street indexes (1841 - 1911)
  • Catholic Registers
