Industrial Action

Following recent industrial action, our cleansing service continues to be affected by delays to bin collections across the city.

We are working hard to catch-up on the backlog of work caused by the disruption to services, but know this will be challenging time for affected households. We anticipate it will be a number of weeks before services return fully to normal.

  • If you receive a kerbside collection for household waste then please follow your collections calendar and present your green, blue and brown bins on the normal day.
  • Kerbside collections of purple bins for glass are currently suspended. Please do not present your purple bin for collection until advised to do so.
  • Unfortunately, the build-up of waste caused by disruption to services has led to household recycling bins becoming contaminated with general waste. We will endeavour to recycle as much as we can but in places where recycling bins have been contaminated we may have to treat all waste as general waste at this time.
  • Our Household Waste Recycling Centres are open as normal and we are removing waste from public recycling points, although there are still delays in places.
  • Residents can continue to make requests for a household bulky waste collection but it is likely that uplifts will not take place as normal at this time. Customers will be emailed directly on arrangements for collection. Please check our website for updates.
  • On-line forms for reporting a range of issues with bins and waste in public places remain switched off at this time. We are aware of the on-going issues with household bins, public bins and waste in public places across the city and we are working to resolve these as quickly as we can.  We anticipate we will be able to restore the on-line reporting forms in the coming days.

We know this has been a difficult time for residents and visitors in the city. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to return services to normal.

Strike action scheduled to affect cleansing services from 6-13 September was suspended following an agreement at national pay negotiations between COSLA on behalf of all Scottish local authorities and the trade unions. The trade unions are now consulting with their members on whether to accept the pay agreement.
