This is the list of documents available for the submission by Councillor Gordon Matheson:- Council recognises Glasgow's global reputation for welcoming people of all races, creeds and colours to the city. Council notes with concern the recent production of a movie, offensive to Islam, in which the dignity of many Glaswegians was insulted. Council regards the response of Glasgow's Muslim community to the production to be measured in tone and a tribute to the city. Furthermore, Council condemns the violent reactions to the movie which have resulted in widespread aggression and the death of innocent people across the world. Council believes that free speech is designed to guarantee a voice to all in society, not to provide a platform for vindictive and mendacious religious hatred. As a tolerant and multicultural authority, Glasgow City Council will continue to be steadfast in both its protection of religious groups from malicious attacks and in its condemnation of reactionary violence. Council instructs the Chief Executive to write to Ed Vaizey MP, UK Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries to consider what steps could be taken to counter such potentially inflammatory productions. Council also resolves to canvass local faith and community groups across Glasgow to encourage even greater levels of co-operation and understanding.".
