Submission Documents: By Councillor Pauline McKeever:- "Council celebrates the life and achievements of Mary Barbour, committed community activist, leading organiser of the 1915 Govan rent strikes and the first woman elected to this chamber. As a Councillor, Mary Barbour campaigned successfully for many improvements in the lives of her fellow citizens, and thereafter spent the rest of her life helping others. Her many accomplishments have had a profound effect on the communities she represented, ensuring that her legacy today be as a powerful role model for the people of Glasgow and in particular for the women of the city. Therefore, Council welcomes the formation of the Remember Mary Barbour committee, which seeks to erect a lasting monument in honour of her achievements. Council commits to provide support and guidance to this group where needed, to ensure that a fitting tribute is established to one of the city's most significant but hitherto insufficiently celebrated figures."
