Submission Documents: By Councillor Gordon Matheson:- "Council is immensely proud that Glasgow will next month host the XX Commonwealth Games, as awarded by the Commonwealth Games Federation, which will be broadcast to a television audience of around 1.5 billion people; notes that all venues were built and in use by the people of Glasgow more than a year in advance; welcomes that over £181 million of Games-related contracts have been awarded to Glasgow firms helping create around 4,500 jobs and apprenticeships; is pleased that sports participation levels have increased across the city with attendances in our sports facilities at an all-time high of 6.6 million; celebrates that record numbers applied to volunteer, with 16,500 set to represent the city this summer; notes that over 90% of tickets have now sold out; is deeply grateful to the highly professional and dedicated staff across the Council family for all that they have done and will do to help deliver the best, most athlete and spectator-focussed Games ever; warmly thanks the Organising Committee and Games partners, Commonwealth Games Association Scotland and the Scottish Government, for working so well alongside the city; commits afresh to deliver a Games legacy of lasting benefit to the people of Glasgow; and wishes every success to Team Scotland and, in particular, Glasgow's athletes."
