The International Financial Services District (IFSD) is a £750 million and rising project, creating a highly attractive environment for indigenous and overseas firms in finance and related sectors.
First launched in August 2001 with the aim of encouraging inward investment and support job creating by providing high quality office space, retail and living accommodation. It is a partnership between Glasgow City Council, Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, Scottish Financial Enterprise and Scottish Development International and BT eLocations.
The district went national in November 2003 with nearly 200 key business leaders attending a seminar and business dinner at the London Stock Exchange.
More than 12,000 jobs have been created or safeguarded in the area, with investment from global companies such as JP Morgan, esure, CGNU, Direct line and Lloyds TSB, who have expanded their operations. Over the 10 years to 2011, the IFSD is expected to create up to 20,000 new jobs in the sector. |
