Get Ready Glasgow - UEFA EURO 2020

EURO 2020 banner

Glasgow is proud to be one of 12 European host cities selected by UEFA for Euro 2020, confirming the city's status as one of the world's top sporting and football destinations, alongside the likes of Rome, London and Munich. This position has been well earned, building on a reputation for hosting some of the biggest events in sporting and football history - just looking at recent examples, Glasgow hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2014, the World Gymnastics Championships in 2015 and the first ever multi-sport European Championships in 2018.

The city has also hosted some of European football's greatest nights. From the famous 1960 European Cup Final, between Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt, regarded as one of the greatest matches ever, to the 'Zidane' final of 2002, Glasgow has proved time and again that it has the passion, skills and infrastructure to host world-class sporting events.  From 12 June to 12 July 2020 Glasgow will play a key part in commemorating the 60th anniversary of the UEFA Euro Championship. Hampden Park will host three group games on 15th, 19th, 23rd followed by a round of 16 match on 30 June 2020. This is the first time in the competition's 60-year history that it will held in this 12 city format, giving fans throughout the continent a chance to be part of the action.

UEFA Announcement:  17 March 2020
I am sure that you have read the press reports which detailed UEFA's Executive Committee decision informing this team that EURO 2020 has been postponed until 2021 due to the ongoing Covid-19 global pandemic. This decision was communicated to all twelve Host Cities, including Glasgow. We believe this to be a pragmatic and common-sense decision, and will work timeously to adapt our planning accordingly.  As a Host City, our primary consideration is to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the hundreds of thousands of supporters, visitors and citizens who had been anticipating being part of the experience of UEFA EURO 2020 in Glasgow.  We are currently working through the impacts from this postponement and will be contacting suppliers and stakeholders to discuss the immediate actions and next steps over the coming weeks.
