Laurieston TRA officially began in 2010 and launched on site in May 2012.
Glasgow City Council appointed Urban Union (UU) as a long term private sector development partner on behalf of the project partners. Laurieston was a thirteen hectare site consisting mainly of derelict and vacant land.
Phase 1A, the construction of the of 201 homes for social rent for New Gorbals Housing Association (NGHA), was complete in November 2014. This allowed the clearance and demoliton of the Norfold Court multi-storey blocks. It has won many design awards. Phase 1B, the construction of 69 homes for sale and 39 for mid-market rent started on site in October 2014. Following a sales launch in November 2014, all 69 homes for sale sold "off plan". Phase1B completed in Spring 2016.
Phase 1C consists of 46 flats for social rent and 9 for shared equity, constructed by Urban Union for NGHA. This phase started on site in January 2017 and is due for completion in September 2018. It will form a gateway building at the prominent Eglinton Street/Cumberland Street junction.
Anderson Bell & Christie Architects have master planned Phase 2 which will consist of housing for sale to the north of Bedford Street. This will start on site in March 2017.
Southside Housing Association propose to refurbish the Grade A Listed Linen Bank Tenement on Gorbals Street. Together with the planned refurbishment of the Citizen's Theatre and environmental improvements to Gorbals' Street, the TRA's environswill be greatly enhanced.
