Ordering Birth, Death, Marriage and Civil Partnership Certificates

Royal Mail Service update: 31 January 2023

ROYAL MAIL INTERNATIONAL EXPORT SERVICES

We continue to make progress in exporting an increasing number of items to a growing number of international destinations, using alternative solutions and systems not affected by the recent cyber incident.

Our focus has been on despatching the export parcels and letters which were in our network before the cyber incident. We have also been successfully despatching standard export letters since reinstating service on 18 January and International Tracked & Signed and International Signed letters and parcels since 26 January.

For more information please visit the Royal Mail website.

Update: 31 January 2023

Please note this is not a priority service.  Certificate requests are dealt with in date order and are currently taking around 7 to 10 working days to process at this time due to the very high demand for this service.

If you are requesting a copy of a birth certificate for a passport application please do not make a passport appointment until the certificate is received.

If you require your certificate urgently you may wish to check with other local registration offices who may be able to offer a priority service and provide your certificate quicker. Please visit Directory of Registrars in Scotland for contact details.

Replacement Certificates are only available via our certificates online ordering service. Please do not attend the office in person as you will not be seen and will only be directed to our Certificates Online Site to place your order.

Please allow for sufficient delivery by Royal Mail and do not email to check the progress of your request, unless over the minimum 10 working day processing timeframe.

Thank you for your continued patience and support
