Council grants lease to amateur football club in Drumchapel

Published: 08 December 2016

Glasgow City Council's Executive Committee today (8 December) approved a 25 year lease to Drumchapel United Football Club for a playing field in Drumchapel.

This lease for the amateur club, at Halgreen Playing Field on Halgreen Avenue, will give them security of tenure and allow them to attract funding for a new 3G playing surface and the installation of new floodlighting at this 2.5acres site.

The club, which runs 21 teams, and has players aged as young as six, is looking to position portacabins at the site to provide changing facilities.

A condition of the lease is that the club has five years to attract such funding and complete the development.

Councillor George Redmond, Executive Committee for Jobs, Business and Investment at Glasgow City Council, said: "I am delighted that the council has approved this lease for Drumchapel United.  This will allow the club, which plays a vital role for the local community and beyond, supporting hundreds of players of all ages, to move to the next stage of their development."
