Hosted by our partners Able Futures, who deliver the Access to Work Mental Health Support Service on behalf of the DWP, this webinar will show how leading with compassion helps to promote a mentally healthy workplace.

Join Able Futures on Monday 14 August 2023 from 2 to 3 pm to learn ways to practice self-compassion and how Able Futures can help support people with many things that may be playing on their mind that are affecting their time at work, so they can discover new ways to feel better.

  • recognising early warning signs and triggers
  • creating a safe space to have a confidential conversation
  • signposting to support.

Linda Weir from the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) will help us to explore the causes of stress, provide some useful tips and tools to help us manage stress, and share key sources of support available.

This short session on Friday 18 August 10 to 10.30amwill help participants:

  • gain an understanding of stress, and how it might present itself in individuals
  • recognise the early warning signs that might suggest a staff member is struggling with their mental health
  • learn what practical tools and guidance on stress management are helpful both inside and outside of the workplace.

Glasgow Gears Up for2023 UCI Cycling World Championships with Programme of Free, Family Fun for All

With the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow and across Scotland just 10 days away, Glasgow has today unveiled more details of its exciting citywide GO LIVE! programme. Funded by Glasgow City Council and organised by Glasgow Life, the broad range of cultural and community participation events will take place across the full 11 days of competition 3-13 August.

The GO LIVE! brand has proved a popular feature of previous major events in Glasgow. Like the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2018 European Championships the city is ensuring there are ways for everyone, whether sports fans or not, to get involved, soak up the atmosphere and have some fun.

This free programme of activity promotes cycling and wellbeing to different audiences, and encourages healthy and active lifestyles across sport, culture and the arts. It will showcase ways to get involved in cycling in the community and provide tangible opportunities for Glasgow's citizens to connect with this world-class cycling event, with local event activity in the Northeast, Northwest, and South of the city.

GO LIVE! George Square, the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships' official Fan Zone, that will host the road race finishes and their medal ceremonies. GO LIVE! at the Road Race will see vibrant street arts entertainment combined with Road Race viewing areas to create a vibrant weekend competition hub that appeals to all on 5/6 and 12/13 August. Come and experience the thrill of the Road Races as the world class cyclists whizz past three key locations (Argyle Street, Kelvingrove, City of Glasgow College) on their multiple laps of the city whilst being entertained by some of the best street performances in Scotland.

2 August 2023 - The pipes are calling - World Pipe Band Championships are back for 2023

Tickets are on sale now for this year's World Pipe Band Championships - which take place in Glasgow on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 August.

The 'Worlds' attract thousands of pipers and drummers from all over the world to compete for the ultimate prize in pipe band competitions. This will be the 75th anniversary of Glasgow hosting the renowned event for the first time in 1948.

Last year's Championships saw 40,000 spectators descend on Glasgow Green to watch and hear 146 bands from Scotland and as far afield as the USA, Canada, Austria and Australia battling to be crowned the winners. The title of 2022 world champions went to Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, with Inveraray and District Pipe Band finishing runners-up.
