Glasgow's Lord Provost is hosting Christmas lunches for around 1250 senior citizens at the City Chambers this week.

Around 250 guests each day are attending the annual festive parties in the building's beautiful Banqueting Hall from Monday to Friday. The city residents are donning party hats to enjoy Christmas meals, festive entertainment and dancing.

School pupils from five primary schools are performing at the celebrations throughout the week. Choirs from Hillhead Primary, St Anne's Primary, St Mungo's Primary, Thorntree Primary and Cardonald Primary, are singing for the visitors who are also enjoying live music from a Salvation Army band.

Executive Director of Education, Douglas Hutchison, also showed off his musical talents by playing the trombone at several of the events.

The Lord Provost, Councillor Jacqueline McLaren, said: "It is an absolute delight to host the Christmas lunches and meet so many senior citizens from across the city. There is a lovely festive atmosphere at the events and it is nice to see everyone having a good time and celebrating the season. Isolation and loneliness can be a real problem for people in later life, so it is nice to see everyone chatting away to each other and sharing the experience together."
