Pastry chef, Adele McKinley, has bagged Glasgow's tasty £100 LitterLotto prize.

The keen hiker who lives with her partner in Castlemilk plans to treat herself to new walking boots after winning the monthly prize draw.

She downloaded Glasgow's free LitterLotto app after discovering it online while searching for community clean-up events in her area. And after submitting photos of herself binning litter via the app, she was thrilled to become the city's third £100 winner since the initiative was launched in the city at the end of last year.

Nature lover, Adele, does litter picks while out walking and believes she benefits from the activity, as well as the environment.

She encouraged other people to download the free app and help protect wildlife from the risks posed by litter.

Adele said: "I am a fan of the Ocean Clean-up project and found the LitterLotto app while looking up litter picking groups and other ways to help.

"I like to get out into greenspaces as much as possible, it helps with your wellbeing and you're doing your best for urban wildlife. It's a big win for the environment and your mental health being outdoors. There's always the chance to win a prize for giving a little back to nature too."

As well as her interest in the environment, Adele also loves visiting theme parks and going to live music concerts with her partner. She collects Lego and vintage bone china and also loves to draw.

She joins other lucky Glasgow £100 LitterLotto winners, student Anna-Maria Topouzi and bar manager, Simon McGinley.

The super active city resident is now looking forward to spending the prizemoney on equipment for her next adventure. She said: "Myself and my partner are climbing Ben Nevis at the end of April, I'll be able to buy some boots or walking poles!"

LitterLotto aims to encourage more people to bin litter and reward those who already do so. To enter, people aged 18 and over must download the free LitterLotto app to their mobile and upload photos of themselves binning rubbish in a council street bin via the app's camera function. Each month, a prize draw will see one lucky person chosen at random win the cash prize.

People can enter as many times as they like, as long as it's different litter each time being deposited into a Glasgow City Council street bin. Putting rubbish in household waste doesn't count! Leaving litter beside or on top of a bin does not qualified and if a bin is full, please find another nearby. If a blue recycling street bin is close by, please use it for anything recyclable.

Glasgow City Council is trialling LitterLotto for a year, in partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful, to encourage more people to develop good habits.

As well as the monthly Glasgow cash prize, entrants will also be entered into a national draw for KSB's monthly £200 LitterLotto prize and LitterLotto's weekly £1000 UK-wide prize. Anyone aged 18 and over can enter if they bin a piece of litter in the city or submit a photo during an organised litter pick. The winners are chosen at random by LitterLotto. Participants can also collect virtual coins which are hidden in locations around the city and can be exchanged for prizes within the app.
