Some parents may wish to make a request to place their child in another school. Such a request is referred to as a placing request. It is essential however those parents must also register their child for Education in their local catchment primary school initially and before submitting their placing request form.
Please note you are not required to submit a paper version of the application if you have applied online.
To make a placing request of your choice to a mainstream school, you are required to submit a placing request application form, placing requests Guidance notes are available to assist you with the completion.
Our online facility is under development and is only available at present for mainstream schools, should you wish to make an application to an ASL School or Additional Support Needs provision, please use the Placing Request postal application form.
Please note that you are required to submit a separate placing request application form for each school you are applying to and a separate placing request form is required for each child.
After you have submitted your Placing Request you will receive an automated response email confirming receipt of your application. If you do not receive that response please contact placingrequestsNWareahub@glasgow.gov.uk to ensure that the application has been received.
Please note that documentary evidence is required to be submitted at the time of your application. If you do not supply this evidence, then the next applicable criteria on the form will be used to prioritise the spaces available. Copies of documentary evidence can be posted to the address below or scanned and emailed to the aforementioned email address clearly identifying the school that you are making the application to and also stating your child's name.

Placing Request forms should not be handed in to your local school office.
Parents/Carers are responsible for ensuring application forms are posted to the Area Support Team as detailed above.
An acknowledgement letter will be posted within 5 working days. If you do not receive anything please contact the Area Support team on the aforementioned contact details, to ensure that the application has been received.
Following registration at a local catchment school, families can make a Placing Request Application to attend any other school of their choice out-with the catchment area for their home address.

For those placing requests granted, it should be noted, there is no guarantee that future placing requests made for younger siblings for the same school will be successful. This may mean that any younger children would attend a different school to their older sibling.
When there are more P1 placing requests received for a school than there are places available, the following criteria are applied to assist the decision making process.
The priority order is -
A child/young person who has a medical condition who requires facilities or support available only in the requested school. All applications seeking to receive recognition under this category should be supported by documentary evidence from your family doctor and a local health practitioner. Please note: All medical documentation should be submitted with this choice form.
In relation only to denominational schools, those children whose parents/carers can demonstrate an affinity with the religious ethos of the school (for example, a baptismal certificate from the Roman Catholic Church or a supporting letter). All applications seeking to receive recognition under this category should be supported by documentary evidence as outlined above.
If the child/young person has a sibling already in the chosen school and that a brother or sister will be attending the same school for the session the application is being made
The child is from a single adult household and for example, the proximity of a school to the parent's/carer's place of work would be advantageous for the care and well-being of the child or young person. You may be asked to support this by suitable documentation.
Ranked by distance between your home and school by a suitable walking route (This criteria will be used when all of the above have been exhausted). Those living closest to school ranking highest
To the suitability of particular teaching methods to the child/young person's needs or the availability of subjects which he/she was previously studying - Please give full reasons below
The above process also applies to any "in term" placing request applications made, and the same criteria applied if necessary
When a Primary School is unable to accommodate all the children who have registered to commence in Primary 1, the "over-subscription" process is applied.
Parents are advised in writing of the position and asked to provide specific details. The above placing request criteria is then applied to decide which children rank highest for a place in their catchment school.
During term time, if a school cannot accommodate a catchment enrolment due to the year group being full, the "Local School Full" process will be applied. The Head Teacher will place the child's name on their waiting list to be contacted at a later stage should a place become available. Should there be more applications than places available the above "placing request criteria" will be applied to decide which child on the waiting list should have the space. School catchment waiting lists are not dealt with on a first come first served basis, or by the length of time the child has been on the waiting list. The placing request criteria will always require to be applied to be fair to all parents.
Should the distance from home to the offered school be over the required qualifying distance of 1.2 miles, parents are entitled to apply for free school transport. Please note free school transport is only granted until such times as a space becomes available at the catchment school. If parents decide to request their child remains at the offered school, they will become a placing request there, and free transport is likely to be withdrawn.
