Medical Parking Permits

Glasgow City Council has a medical parking permit system in operation throughout the city, these permits are managed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and issued by Glasgow City Council to assist NHS medical personnel working within the community in times of emergency or unforeseen circumstances.

An NHS medical parking permit allows the following dispensations:

  • A Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) will not be issued to a vehicle displaying a valid medical parking permit, whilst parked within a pay and display parking space until 15 minutes after the expiry of the paid for parking time.
  • If there is no available parking space, a vehicle displaying a valid medical parking permit may wait on a waiting restriction for a maximum period of 1 hour, provided loading / unloading is permitted at the location.

Any vehicle not complying with the conditions of this permit will be liable to receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), however a vehicle displaying a valid medical parking permit will not be removed unless it is causing a danger to the public.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my property not qualify for a parking permit?

Any residential development or re-development completed after the qualifying date of the parking zone will be required to provide their own off-street parking or be considered a car-free development through the Council's planning process. Therefore, anyone purchasing/renting one of these properties would not be able to apply for an on-road resident parking permit and this should be communicated to the potential occupier through the developer or owner.

I have a motorhome, and I have purchased a permit, but I cannot fit into a single parking space, what should I do?

Every effort must be made by a larger vehicle to fit all four wheels within one parking space.  However, it is accepted that this may not always be possible due to the varying length of these type of vehicles.  With this in mind, providing that a valid parking permit or parking session has been paid for, motorhomes are permitted to overhang a second parking bay.
